The course is designed to train highly specialised weapon instructors, developing their expertise in the employment of advanced weapons systems and the execution of complex operational missions. Throughout the WIC, participants work together across national boundaries, sharing knowledge, experience and operational procedures. This international cooperation plays an important role in strengthening interoperability between European air forces. Leeuwarden Air Base, home to the Royal Netherlands Air Force’s F-35 fleet, provides an important environment for this demanding training. The combination of advanced aircraft, experienced personnel and international cooperation makes the Weapon Instructor Course a significant event on the military aviation calendar. For aviation enthusiasts and photographers, WIC 2026 offered an opportunity to capture a wide range of military aircraft and operations associated with this prestigious training programme.
